TODAY’S COFFEES

TODAY’S COFFEES roasted in San Diego on 5/1/24:

BIRD ROCK: The big news at Birdy’s is that a few of their nomeclatures are changing. French Roast is no longer known by the accurate, dependable name it’s ever had and is now “Midnight Surf”. Still the same Colombia/Indonesia dark roast washed process it ever was, and available today. They claim it will take awhile for the new labels to show up, but they always say that. Bizarre. There’s a Colombia Tolima organic and an Ethiopia natural process going on there today, too. Light roasts. http://birdrockcoffee.com

STONE BREWING: Too little known is that Stone Brewing also has a rather intense coffee line. The newest of which is their Black Label series featuring Ethiopia Sidama Bekele Belachew Murago Lot #2. This is a small lot coffee, with 74110, 74112, and Heirloom varietals, natural process and dark roasted. The Heirloom varietal is noted for its depth of body that should produce a deeper, richer mouthfeel per cup when correctly brewed. We have to admit that Stone leaves none un turned when it comes to packaging, presentation and promotion of its coffee wares and local roasters might do well to investigate their offerings for single cup, office and portable use to give the public more options and reasons to buy. Available from today at Stone. http://coffee.stonebrewing.com

MODERN TIMES; Mexico Chiapas Union Ramal Santa Cruz single origin, washed process light roast. There are others, but they seem a bit unclear on today’s line up. http://moderntimesbeer.com

VIGILANTE: Peru Cajamarca Mario Jesus washed process medium (City) roast. Best used for pour over or filter at around 203 degrees F at 1:15 ratio. Not recommended for espresso. http://vigilantecoffee.com

STEADY STATE: Colombia “Indonesia Caturra”, caturra varietal, anerobic honey process. Light, of course. Everything’s light these days…http://steadystateroasting.com
